A key study on the recruitment of workers from Kerala (India) and Nepal travelling to the United Arab Emirates for employment showed that a significant number of workers reported discrepancies between their job offer and the employment contract and that increased transparency and dialogue between stakeholders was critical.
In response to this report, the governments of the UAE and Philippines launched a pilot project titled: An Alternative Model of Labour Recruitment to provide joint government oversight and monitoring of the recruitment process between the two countries. It is the first example of a jointly developed programme on promoting fair and ethical recruitment among the ADD countries.
